Astro Bot wins Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2024
Team Asobi’s Astro Bot today took home the trophy, the tenth winner of The Game Awards’ Game of the Year Award. Studio head Nicolas Doucet accepted the award from previous winner Swen Vincke of Larian Studios, and thanked the rest of the studio for their work and passion. The game beat out several other favorites, including Players’ Voice winner Black Myth: Wukong, Metaphor: ReFantazio, Balatro, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree.
Astro Bot took home several other awards during the night, including Game Direction, Family Game, and Action/Adventure Game. Several other GOTY contenders also took home awards — Astro Bot wasn’t quite the clean sweep that Baldur’s Gate 3 was last year. Balatro took home both Best Indie and Best Debut Indie, as well as Best Mobile Game. Metaphor: ReFantazio also took home Best RPG and Art Direction, while Final Fantasy VII Rebirth took home Best Score and Music.
